Visions in Methodology (VIM) supports women+ who study political methodology. VIM is committed to supporting all individuals who have identified and continue to identify as women (including cisgender and trans women), intersex individuals who do not identify as male, individuals assigned female at birth who have not taken medical or legal steps to identify as male, and individuals assigned female at birth who do not identify within the gender binary. In addition to providing a forum to share scholarly work, VIM connects these scholars in a field where they are under-represented. VIM provides opportunities for scholarly progress, networking, and professional mentoring in research and teaching in order to support women in the political methodology community. Averaging about 30 participants, VIM's multi-day conferences feature research presentations and discussions on both methodological and substantive topics.
VIM is hosting two conferences in the summer of 2026, in the effort to reach as many people as possible. First, the regular, 2 ½ day conference will be held for the first time in Europe over May 28-30, 2026, at the Hertie School in Berlin, Germany. Details can be found here: https://visionsinmethodology.org/conf/2026/
Second, VIM will host a pre-conference workshop on July 15, 2026, one day prior to the start of the annual meeting of the Society for Political Methodology. This workshop will include presentations, workshops, and professionalization discussions. The pre-conference workshop is open to anyone who identifies as a woman, including trans women, cis women, and women of all gender identities; additionally, participants of marginalized genders who experience misogyny or otherwise feel comfortable attending this gathering are welcome to apply. We hope and invite those who attend the pre-conference workshop stay to attend the PolMeth conference as well. To apply, submit this form by March 26, 2026: https://forms.office.com/r/vf33BPGMuy
